The Virgin Festival is the world’s leading international music festival that is coming to South Africa in December! There will be 18 bands playing 12 hours of music to 60 000 fans in Cape Town and Jozi!

The history of the Virgin Fest

The V Festival is Virgin’s UK music festival which has been running since 1996. It takes place every third weekend in August (the UK Summer) on two beautiful sites, Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park in Staffordshire. The Festival is one of the largest and most popular in the UK and it attracted over 180,000 music fans in 2008!

V Festival is an industry favourite, with the live music business voting ‘V’ the European Festival of the Year for the past seven consecutive years at the annual Live! Magazine Awards. The Festival plays host to over 100 bands which include world-class international artists supported by an extensive and eclectic mix of up and coming talent. Some of the bands that played this year at “v” in the UK were Muse, The Verve, Kings of Leon, Sterophonics, Amy Winehouse, Lenny Kravitz, The Kooks, Alanis Morissette, The Prodigy, Kaiser Chiefs to name just a few. It also boasts the most toilets per festival goers of any UK festival and the nicest security guards in the business. In 2006 the international expansion began with Canada (Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax) and then the USA (Baltimore) launching their inaugural Virgin Festivals.

In March 2007, Virgin Festival was launched in Australia (Sydney, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth) and South Africa in 2008.
