Oh well, it can only get better from here, I guess.

Awesome line-up! But thats what the public expects from a brand like Virgin!

Diane

Can’t wait to hear the rest of the line-up.
PLEASE PLEASE BRING ALTERBRIDGE!!

Yeah not too bad.

Snoop Dawg is the heavy hitter at this moment. But it’s missing out on the hard rock core. Many many people won’t esp go to see Moron 5 and One Republic, that I promise you. Depends allot on ticket sales really.

Excited to see who else will play… Need yo have some1 like REM or Coldplay to really make the impact. But they are maybe too big. Who knows..

Zina

OMG! As if! I cant believe how rubbish this lineup is! Why is it so hard for SA to get decent bands to come to the country! Yesterday when I heard about V fest coming to SA it was good news, now im so bleak! Snoop Dogg???!!! WHY! They all watered down rubbish “bands”

Maybe this is what the majority of SA’s public want to see?? If so im sad for them!

Shane

Muse? Prodigy? Radiohead? I need something epic to make me want to buy Golden Circle, otherwise even using my student card to get cheaper tickets remains a maybe… At least this is a start to something good I guess… I’ve had enough of hearing about friends seeing concerts like this overseas on a regular basis and all I can say is, “I went to coke fest once!” :P

[...] As you know Virgin don’t go small and they have not let us down now! Check out the bands that will be playing: (courtesy of Virgin Festival Blog) [...]

Is Snoop Dogg a band ;)

Snoop is cool, hope he does not get busted for drugs this time!

It will still be an awesome concert!

Grant Mc

LINKIN PARK!!!!!!

Sarah

Hi!

YOu need some super great SA bands!
Check out Feshlyground & Hot Water
to that we can all feel represented
at such a great concert by sounds that
are truly South African..not just rock stuff!

Nice!

Can we have some REAL bands please???? eg. Limp Bizkit, Green Day, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Kooks, etc…

It’s not worth forking out R600 for so far, I hope this is just the Pop section and the Rock bands get announced next…

Botha

Linkin Park is a glorified boy band…

Give me Radiohead, Foo fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Cheers.

Zina

Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Bloc Party, AFI, Kings Of Leon, Biffy Clyro, The Pigeon Detectives, The Fratellis, Lostprophets. Guess ill need to move to the UK to get anything along those lines. I mean Kings Of Leon are playing 14 times in a month over in the UK. Dont people like that kinda music in SA? Is it just me and a bunch of people that do?

Id be embarrassed to host a “festival” with a lineup like this one currently has, I doubt it will get better, im sure they’d announce the biggest names first.

Guess it is a choice of personal preference

:)

Jaco

Hey eddy grant is for the older generation. My cokefest had better bands. I predict very low ticket sales.

Yellow Door Cubicle

We love One Republic!!!! Won’t miss it for the world! :)

shaun

this is a shit line up so far we need metal bands

stander

yeah this line sux!!! one republic is good and the rest sux!! i heard blink182 is possibly gettin back together… it would be revolutionary to get them to play here!!! and bring story of the year, chevelle, zebrahead, lost prophets, tenacious d,biffy glyro, breaking benjamin, tool and so forth :)

morgan

what a crap line up. i mean one republic and maroon five are okay, but i wouldn’t rush out and buy my ticket for them, and what the hell is snoop dog doing there? bring sum real bands like bloc party!

Raquel_SA

I happen to be vey interested and satisfied with the bands already mentioned. I love One Republic. Please DON’T add Heavy Metal bands!!!!!!!!!!!!

Organise the Jonas Brothers!

Vae

It’s a festival for ALL kinds of music… Think it’s going to be awesome! Besides, the COKE FEST is there for rock. Looking forward to seeing who else is coming if I look at the band line up in America… Whoop whopp whoop!

KJ

dude i missed coke fest, so this must be the next best thing!! yes please.. cant wait!! this is going to be awesome!!!

mrs carter

PLS BRING LIL WAYNE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.. or timbaland

sinead

JONAS BROTHERS!!!
LEONA LEWIS!!!

Jakes

Virgin Festival is about breaking down barriers between the different genres of music, cutting edge production over multiple stages, established international artists mixed with local artists and progressive people who are into having a good time. It’s a South African festival and is not supposed to be a carbon copy of the UK, Canada or any other country for that matter, that’s as stupid as the tuscan style villas in Joburg….

Dirty Skirts were rated one of the best live SA acts of 2008, Eddy Grant will be performing with Lucky Dube’s band (which will be revolutionary), Snoop Dogg is one of the biggest urban artists in the world (one of few artists who appeals to a cross-over audience), Maroon 5 and One Republic are platinum selling pop rock artists who have been playing massive festivals … so far its a great line-up and rumour has it that the Sugababes and Goldfish will also be playing.

Cokefest is a well established platform for Metal & Hard Rock (Green Day, Linkin Park, Limp Bitzkit, etc.), don’t think Virgin Festival will see any of that.

sinead

Please bring the jonas brothers they rock and they’re hot. I love maroon 5 and one republic!

David

Well I won’t be coming with this gay ass line up.
I’d rather go watch the local bands and not pay out my ass.
Where are all the good bands, that lineup consists of ppl who can’t play live for shit, its all studio music and crap.
PLEASE BRING US SOMETHING DECENT!!!!!

Rob

Jonas Brothers? Are you retarded! Those gay idiots would probably be too scared to perform on stage, anyway, my point is that this festival should contain metal and rock. All this shit about coke fest havin all the rock is crap!
Metal bands, in my opinion that should come are Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Testament, Megadeth, Machine Head and Iron Maiden. There’s a bigger metal fanbase here in South Africa than a lot of people think and it would be a wise choice to include metal bands as they would definitely sell tickets.
Children of Bodom!!!!!!!!!!!!

Candy

The Virgin Festival is not a rock concert as far as I can see so why are some people raining on the hip hop parade? I hope they can secure a good mixture of artists from all genre’s of music. Where’s the R&B? Any live event is awesome.

Looking forward to it!

Botha

I can promise you, with a line up like this I won’t go even if someone gives me a ticket.

chad

awe that line up rules ’snoop dog’ wooo hooo im going

chad

o and awe jason southing

Kelz

I agree with bringing more rock bands. Come on! The kooks would be like a dream come true!!!!! Breaking benjamin! Coldplay! Rem! Linkin park!! Plz oh plz… :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

To all those who are moaning about the lineup of the bands, please do us all a favour and stay at home.

Ross

A dissapointing line up. Not one that i would pay almost R500.00 for. But that is my point of view, many people will be happy with the line up but think the majority will stay away if the remainder of the line up is similar which will result in poor turnouts again. South Africa is infamous for not selling out venues and events and this will be no different unless that line up changes drastically! Your right, this is not the UK, or Aus or even the US. It is difficult to get the big bands here, just feel we lacking a big seller, like Foo Fighters, Chilli Peppers, Kings of Leon, Stereophonics, the Kooks, Metallica, Counting Crows, Coldplay, Muse, Green Day, Powderfinger. Virgin must realise if they want to make this a success they need to invest, get the big boys here or this will be a flop once again!

Kel

These bands are not worth a ticket price of R500 to R600. I really hope you guys can bag some good bands. Its awesome that SA also have the V Festival now but I really hope we can get at least one good headliner so that I dont feel embarressed telling my UK & Aussie friends about our SA Virgin Festival line-up.

Bron

Are you kidding me???? Have you been to a V Festival in the UK, you guys are going to be laughed at if this line up doesn’t get better! Snoop Dogg…come on!!!! Rubbish!

Zina

LOL this is funny! Every1 hates the line up! I hate it! What a waste of time.

SA has a serious music problem!

Haniyyah

please please please say LINKIN PARK is Playing at the V-Fest….

Ruan

I think what most are hoping for is some more heavy, more substantial acts.

Michelle

You really need some super Brill SA bands to show the world what SA is all about.. it needs to show diversity and the real South Africa so an Eclectic Line up is needed something for everyone not just the regular concert goers it
must appeal to all! Definately Freshlyground & Hot Water & The Dirty Skirts! Foo Fighters …!!!

Yolandie

best band in the line-up is Parlotones and i can see them at the local live band venue for R60. How about Chilli peppers, REM, Live, Violent Femmes, THE KILLERS!!!!!! screw the rest, bring the KILLERS!!!

Killer

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring Linkin Park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!CHEVELLE!!!!!!!!

michael

Please bring Rihanna

get all will fall to play the virgin fest in south africa!
it’s a top local act!

get them!

Kelly

OMG!!!!! PLEASE bring a brilliant and famous international band that’s NOT gay and boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GazZ

Glad to see that we are finally getting a couple of great concerts happening in SA, but why the weak line up.

Let’s see Radiohead, Mastadon, RHCP, Coldplay.
There are so many other cool bands that can fit this bill, please bring them out.

Jody

Ya i must say that the line up is very dissapointing so far!! Snoop Dog - why oh why!! I understand that we want a concert for everyone but cmon!! make sure you put him on around lunch time so we can all get food until he’s done!! Please bring some real talent like Linkin Park or Chevelle!! Something to wake us up after the other bands!! PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!

The Sugababes! hahahahahahahaha! ha!

I will definately NOT be going now. Good luck with the ticket sales Virgin!

J

To Gregg…….. this is a public domain and people are free to complain n about the line up. That’s the point isn’t it to get feedback. If this music suites you fine you will probably be the only one there with you’re Sugababes poster and face full of glitter. Bring the rock and roll and leave these soft c*ck acts out.

Ross

WHAT A JOKE OF A LINE UP! THE ACTS KEEP GETTING WORSE. IF SOMETHING DOES NOT CHANGE, AND THE REMAINING EIGHT BANDS STILL TO BE ANNOUNCED ARE SHITTY LIKE THE TEN ALREADY ANNOUNCED, THIS WILL BE A FLOP. I PROMISE!!

Jody

OMG!!! and it gets worse!! I didn’t think it would be possible!!! Cmon man some rock here guys, please!!
Goldfish has got some talent but sorry to say Its still not worth the money!!!! Wheres Richard?!?! Someone please tell him whats going on!!

geee what a joke why cant virgin bring Jack Johnson out and some other exiting bands!!!hat we can look forward to at least like the UK one.

J

If the jonas brothers are added to this already weak line up it will be even more of a disaster. The bands that have been selected and the reaction from some people just show the level of SA’s cultural intelligence. These bands are musically weak, culturally inimportant and merely exist to steel your money. Virgin is selling music as a brand. How very very very sad that music doesnt exist as a artistic medium anymore. Bet anybody R500 that none of the bands on that line up will even be remembered 10years from now. Very sad

Craig

Geez….Average…What about Chilli Peppers? Linken Park? The KILLERS???????????

roxy

am sooo not keen on this lineup either!sugababes???BARF!!!

Med

Not a bad start - I love Maroon 5 and One Republic but would love it if Linkin Park or The Killers came - now that would be awesome!! Especially if they came to Durban.

Ozmit

This is another quick money making skeem. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Snoop around like coupla months back? He’s good but give us some new material.Sounds like these people didn’t put much effort into this. Frankly I’m not a big fan of big concerts like this, prefer what NoFX and Arrested Development did at Baseline.More personal.Artists like Lil Wayne, Foo Fighter and Linkin Park are too big to share the R500 ticket.Lione Richie is selling his tickets for R800 cause his big.Would people be willing to cough up that amount if all the good bands came.Sad, but ya it’s all bout the money.

Bring Rihanna ,foo fighters and linkin park the line up is not looking so gr8

yolandi

LP people and how about Bullet for my Vallentyn? please just get a better line up this is really not good….

Line up is cool…we just need one awesome rock band like linking park or sum41

CyanideBunny

What a crock of @%^& line-up …
Snoop is prob the ONLY reason I would go to this, and I don’t even listen to Snoop normally…
overseas versions of this fest have LOADS better bands playing… I’ll see if they get better bands for next year, but unless my ticket is free I’m not wasting money on this….

SexyBeast

Wow. This might be the very weakest line up I’ve ever had the unfortunate opportunity of laying eyes on. If you want this festival to explode - get kings of leon. As much as I dislike them, their popularity will save this thing.

Jess

only some of those bands are kwl …
hello what about slipknot? that might be hard but they awesome! and bullet? or what about evanescence? or seether?? they are good!!! but here’s an idea how about giving South African bands a chance of getting known!!! why dont you have auditions for a few South African bands playing!! i know a really good band from Cape Town! they are awesome! they called ‘When Karma Sleeps’ they have what it takes and i’m sure there are other bands too … i think that would be a great opertunity for South African music to be know aswell ..

Faatimah

Please Bring LINKIN PARK ……

david

FOO FIGHTERS OR KINGS OF LEON!!! virgin fest needs to bring some rock to really make this a concert!! two of the best live performing bands in the world. RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS even!! And whoever said linkin park isn’t good enough then dude live music ain’t for you. So far my coke fest has had way better line ups than this. KINGS OF LEON or FOO FIGHTERS. THE END

James

Listen compared to other concerts around the world this line up sucks. Yes its good to show SA talent but why stage this huge “international” concert when most of the bands are from SA??? Bring one more band in…FOO FIGHTERS….KINGS OF LEON…LINKIN PARK…..KILLERS….JET….EVEN SNOW PATROL. Even if you have increase ticket sales a little bit otherwise this is basically a waste of something that could be the best concert SA will ever see. Coke fest had muse, evanescence, 30 seconds to mars, korn, 3 doors down….list goes on. Virgin doesn’t have to bring 5 rock bands but at least bring one. Everyone will like a band like foo fighters…imagine them performing Pretender or everlong….or learn to fly!!!!! COME ON DO IT!!!!!!

DANIEL

Virgin Fest is going on about “Rocking Out” and giving this whole rock concert vibe. It all Bladdy pop…change the colour and style of your adverts to like pink etc. You talking about rocking out then bring a big rock band!!!!!!!!!!!! not maroon 5???

Ashleigh

I think and I think I can say for many people that if Linken Park were one of the bands there, I would have had a ticket already. So people VOTE!

tumi

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA…..SUM OF U GUYS ARE SUCH IDIOTS! OF COURSE THE CONCERT SHOULD CATER FOR ALL MUSIC GENRES, HENCE….YES…..WAIT FOR IT……SNOOP DOG!!!!!!

Rich

The two UK V-Fests featured some amazing indie rock bands. Kings of Leon were incredible; check out ‘Fans’ on youTube (someone’s actually waving the RSA flag!). If any big promoters want actual ticket sales, they should have some idea about what people are in to.
This isn’t 2005 and SA isn’t landlocked from the rest of the world!! Bring some fresh new bands through….

dave

this line up is really not worth the cash……

what about rise against or kings of leon???

ALEKS

We havent had MUSE since MCF 08 =p
i NEED MUSE
haha
Rage Against The Machine, Disturbed and Slipknot would be awesome!

gary

kings of leon , mountain goats , athlete, the features something that will keep us rocking.please none of these second rate plonkers

Chloe

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET THE JONAS BROTHERS! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

tom

Rammstein! and Muse

Hey, thanks for that link to get the free gift card for toys from Kmart, I tried to use it but its only open to those in U.S.A. which sucks because my mom got hers in 3 days in the mail, but she lives in Denver.
