Virgin Festival has been postponed
October 30th, 2008 | Published in News | 26 CommentThe Virgin festival has been postponed to early 2009 in order to secure the international line-up that is more in line with what Virgin Festival stands for throughout the different countries. “Our criteria for a successful Virgin Festival are a great Greenfield venue, an impressive and eclectic international line-up, a huge local line-up, the Road to V bringing local unsigned bands into the mix, and some quirky brand activations for the crowd from Virgin. Four out of five of these are on track, but we’re not entirely satisfied with the international line-up,” said Boyd. “Some of the bands that South Africans kept asking for were simply not available at that time of the year.”
3 Concerts still taking place
As a platform for the Road to V winning band, three concerts presented by Virgin Mobile will still be taking place. On the 13th December in Johannesburg at Coca-Cola Dome, 14th December at Durban’s ICC and on the 17th in Cape Town at Grand Arena at Grandwest. Maroon 5, One Republic, The Parlotones and Goldfish will be lighting up the stage together with Road to V’s winning bands. The grand winner will still open the Virgin Festival by Virgin Mobile when it goes live.
The 3 concerts will be a curtain raiser for Virgin Festival 2009.
For those who’ve already bought tickets, there’s no need to worry. Current ticket holders have three options:
- Hold onto tickets for next year’s Virgin Festival, as they will still be valid
- Get a full refund from Computicket
- Or attend the curtain raiser for the Virgin Festival 2009 instead, which will be cheaper, so you will also be entitled to a partial refund of your original ticket price
It really is disappointing news, but in the long run, the event being postponed to secure much bigger and better international acts is the best solution.

Almost eploded with excitemant when V fest was announced. Slowly deflated after checking the line up and venue and orginizers (Peak perfprmances)Cape Town. Hit rock botom eventually. Good move to pull the show. We will all wait for bands that justify a V fest like Coldplay and other greats.

I am glad it has been postponed and look forward to hearing a line up of truley impressive bands. The local bands are awesome but I feel we need some serious international names - bring on the likes of Cold Play, Jamiroqui, Rhianna…
Debra

I totally agree, our local guys deserve to standa along some impressive acts, i mean how could Goldfish or the parlotones be in the same bill as the sugarbabes. I am looking foward for a kickass lineup, like it better blow us away, or else the whole postponement is just not gonna fly

I got an SMS saying that the V fest has been canceled and that I must get a refund from Computicket…? Does that mean that the tickets won’t be valid for the Fest next year, or that the fest as been canceled completely?
I am very disappointed by the postponement - only Foo Fighters or Linkin Park will make it worth it.
sue
best move so far. i hope they get really awesome bands such as Staind, Seether, Linking Park, 3 doors down, even Kings of Leon.that would make it totally worth the wait.So when in 2009 will the concert happen?

Bring the Jonas Brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring. The. V. Fest. To. Durban.
Please.
The MyCoke fest passes us by, major tours pass us by. Hell, minor tours pass us by.
Why? None of the explanations from the ‘big’ promoters sufficiently explain this, and the overwhelming impression is that promoters based in Cape Town and Joburg simply take the lion’s share and screw the coast over.
Please. Bring the event to Durban.

i’d like to see Linkin Park
LP Fan
V-Fest definitely has to bring Linkin Park. Not only are they the best band in the world but they have a huge fanbase in SA. Coke Fest would be nothing if V-Fest get LP!

Obviously Linkin park has to come!!! I meam then what was the point of cancelling in the first place?? I mean the only time I’ve seen them live was on DVD, pumping the volume up loud and having a moshpit in the living room!!!!!
